Persain Cats
Persian cats are recognised by their long fur and muzzled, round face. The Persian breed is one of the oldest cat breeds, they were first bred by the English and then later on by Americans after World War II. Since they were first breed they are now bred in a number of coat colours, this is down to breeders using the technique of selective breeding. Breeders have also tried to produce cats with a more distinct muzzle.
Persians were once the most popular breed of cats to have in the UK before the 90s, but they have since declined in popularity, in 2003 they were the 5th most popular kitty to own. However in American they still remain the most popular cat to have, with the most popular Persian's being Blue point, flame point and seal point.
Persians tend to have very long and thick fur, this is especially the case for Persians who are shown off it cat shows, they can have patches of colour on their coat which can vary from colours like golden, blue or tabby. They have a wide head which makes their ears be widely set apart and have a short muzzle and big eyes. They have a very calm and homely nature and are known for being one of the most loveable, friendliest to strangers and for being the most affectionate towards their owners.
Due to the thickness and length of their fur Persians are one of the breeds of cats that need the most attention when it comes to grooming, they need to have regular grooming and be bathed often and died off very carefully. They also need brushing every day and their eyes also need to be cleaned regularly.
There are many other breeds of cats that come from the Persian breed these are called; Peke-faced, Himalayan, Exotic shorthair and Toy and Teacup Persians. All of these breeds are similar to the Persian as they have the short muzzle and similar nature, however they vary in a number of ways such as; coat thickness and length, size and the flatness of their faces.
